Yamaha has finally launched its first-ever neo-retro bike in Nepal. The Yamaha FZ X was one of the most awaited 150cc bikes in the Nepalese market. The bike is a mixture of classical touch in the underlying designs and the addition of practical modern components makes it popular in the bike market. FZ X is slightly larger and the looks are completely different from the traditional street fighter stance.
Even though Yamaha has tried giving the mike a classical look inspired by XSR, the safety and comfort have not been compromised. Several tests have been performed on the roads of Nepal which makes FZ X which omits the doubt about the bike’s efficiency on the streets of Nepal.

The bike weighs around 139 kilograms making it heavier than other 150 cc bikes. The bike consists of a circular bi-functional LED projector headlamp along with a LED DRL ring, a muscular-looking fuel tank with a fuel capacity of 10 liters, and an all-black exhaust making the bike look desirable to lots of youths. The engine inside the Yamaha FZ X is the same as that of the FZS V3 series.
The major difference lies in the capacity of the fuel tank. Yamaha has opted to remove the 13 liters fuel tank capacity, reducing it to 10 liters. In light of this, the Yamaha FZ-X has different styling than the Yamaha FZS and a number of more high-end amenities. The unique and intriguing features of the Yamaha FZ X really add up to its price of 4,35,900.
Appearance

Moving on to the looks of the bike, we have already discussed the new neo-retro looks making it one of the most desirable bikes among the bikes currently available in the market. Apart from this, the bike has a single-piece classic two-level seat with tuck and roll. Even though the gap between the rear tire and rear seat makes the design slightly awkward, the upright handlebars eliminate the awkwardness adding comfort to the passenger in the back seat. In addition to the circular design of the headlamp, the oval-shaped ring LED tail light enhances the beauty and classic styling of the bike.
The Yamaha FZ X comes with a muscular-looking fuel tank with a metal fuel tank cover for the security of the fuel inside and an offset fuel cap. Apart from this, the dual-purpose block pattern tires which provide more grip on the tires in wet conditions, fork gaiters for protection from dust, mud, and sand, and brushed aluminum brackets give the bike a tough appearance and give it a boxier look.
Also, the blacked-out engine cowl and multiple body cladding intensify the retro look. Adding up to all these design specifications, the new Yamaha FX Z has a brand new all-digital instrument console and is available in three colors- Matt Copper, Metallic Blue, and Matte Black.
Engine Specifications and Mileage

Powering the new Yamaha FZ X is a single cylinder four-stroke engine of 149cc. The engine is two valved SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft) providing more engine which results in a greater number of revolutions per minute (RPM). The engine is air cooled providing a peak power of 12.5 PS at 7250 rpm. Also, the maximum torque provided by the FZ X engine is 13.3 Nm at 5500 rpm.
The engine specifications of the FZ X engine are similar to that of the FZ S series because Yamaha has not made any changes to the engine, rather the new FZ X is more about the retro look of the bike. Both the torque and power output are not high enough to compete with other 150cc bikes in the market.
Moreover, the engine is connected to a five-speed gearbox providing the bike with a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour (kmph). The bike provides maximum mileage of 45 kilometers per liter (kmpl) which is one of the highest among the 150 cc bikes available in Nepal. The bike has a range of 400km to 450km with a full tank. Along with all these specifications, the new Yamaha FZ X is of BS 6 emission standard making it more environmentally friendly as it produces a lesser amount of Sulphur gas.
Suspension, Wheels and Braking System
The new Yamaha FZ X sits on a single downtube chassis and the starting mechanism is a self-starter only. Suspension duties on the bike are handled by telescopic forks up at the front end which have a higher capacity to absorb shock. On the rear end, a seven-step adjustable monocross suspension is used which increases the handling capacity and stability of the bike. Moving on to the breaking duties, the braking system consists of a 282mm front disc and 220mm rear disc brakes enhancing the braking control of the bike and allowing wider tire space.
The new Yamaha FZ X bike uses a standard single-channel Automatic Braking System (ABS) which is enough and efficient for the roads of Nepal. Also, the bike has a wet clutch system as it makes the clutching system because the fierce clutch engagement is damped down by the lubricant. In addition to this, the bike has multiple disc clutch increasing the torque transmissivity and less weight making it suitable for heavy bikes. As for the tyre, the new Yamaha FZ X has tubeless tyres with a size of 100/80 at the front end and 140/60 at the rear end. Moreover, the redesign of the exhaust from the previous FZ series has made the sound perkier.
Dimensions
The 17- inches alloy wheels on both the front and rear end of the bike provide it with quicker acceleration and faster stopping. Along with this, the bike has a kerb weight of 139 kg which is comparatively heavier but the use of all metallic components adds up to it. The length of the bike is 2020mm, its width is 785 mm and its height is 1115 m. The wheelbase of the bike is 1330 mm making it able to corner faster but the design is not aerodynamically smooth.
Also, the seat height is 810 mm makes the pedaling smoother and faster and the body is positioned properly. The significant ground clearance of 165 mm is okay to traverse the roads of Nepal safely.
Additional Features
Apart from all these physical features, the new Yamaha FZ X has a smartphone connectivity feature to work with the Yamaha Y-Connect app. The Y-Connect app shows phone notifications, a number of telemetric features, such as fuel consumption, maintenance advice, the last place you parked, and malfunctions, as well as the Revs Dashboard, which shows information like engine rpm, throttle opening, rate of acceleration, an eco-friendly riding indicator, and real-time fuel consumption. Navigation and media control features are not included, though.
The bike is also equipped with a multi-information negative LCD meter. Also, the all-digital instrument display has a speedometer, tachometer, a digital clock, fuel levels, and two trip meters. The new Yamaha FZ X also has a USB charging port and a battery of 12V.
Conclusion
The neo-retro cruisers have always been a fan favorite and are widely popular in the Nepalese market too. Right now, the new Yamaha FZ X is the only bike in the neo-retro cruiser segment. The competition for this bike isn’t high. The retro bikes available in Nepal like Royal Enfield Meteor and Jawa 44 can be some worthy rivals but those bikes fall into different segments and are very different in both price and engine specifications keeping them out of our comparison.
Summing up, the price for the new Yamaha FZ X bike is comparatively higher than other 150cc bikes and is the most expensive one in the 150cc FZ series from Yamaha. Even though the retro look, sleek designs, and other features make the new Yamaha FZ X worth the money, it has to compete with other bikes already available in the market.
