IMEI number, International Mobile Equipment Identity registration is made compulsory in Nepal. IMEI unregistered mobile phone is going to be banned since Shrawan 1. All the imported phones from another part of the country should be registered or else they will be banned. All of the general information if the IMEI number is not registered are:
- All mobile phones should be bought from Nepal.
- If only one mobile phone is brought from another country, then you can register it in Nepal easily.
- But if two or more two numbers are brought from other countries, you need to pay a 15% tax for the mobile phone.
What is IMEI number?
IMEI number is a unique 15-digit number that is different from each mobile phone. The IMEI number gives the identity of the mobile. Since it is different from every other phone, it is easier to track the mobile using the IMEI number if it gets lost. So the IMEI number is very important in any mobile phone. You can find the IMEI number engraved in your mobile phone’s battery on a silver shiny sticker.
Steps to register IMEI number in Nepal
1. Dial *#06# on your phone:
The first step is, to go through your phone and dial *#06# on your phone. You will be led to the IMEI number and SN number on your phone. Now you have to copy or note any one of the IMEI numbers.
2. Go to the official website of NTA:
Now after you note the IMEI number from your phone, you will have to open the official website of NTA. To go to the link, click: Nepal Telecommunications Authority | Log in: (nta.gov.np) A new page will open where you can carry your next step.
3. Click know your device:
If you are curious about the registration of your Mobile phone, click on know your device in the blue box. You can also check if your mobile phone is registered or not through this option.
4. Paste or write the IMEI number:
Now, when you press know your device, you will be led to a new page that says to enter your IMEI number. Paste or write the number in the box. And submit by clicking on the green button down the box.
You will be notified if your mobile phone is registered or not. After clicking on the green submit button, you will be instantly notified about your registration. If your mobile phone is not registered, follow the following steps:
5. Visit the site again:
Now, to register the mobile phone, click on the back or open the link mentioned above again.
6. Click on sign in:
On the blue button on the right-hand side, a blue box with a sign-up will be there. Click on it.
7. Individual application:
A new dialogue box will appear on the upper side of the phone. You need to click on the red button which says individual application which will lead you to a new page.
8. Fill the form:
Now a new page that says Individual Application Registration will be opened. There you need to fill up all the necessary information about your phone. You need to know the brand name, model number, and IMEI number of your phone. If you don’t know your mobile phone’s brand and model number, it will be described at the end of the article.
9. Red star:
You need to fill up every piece of information which is in the red star. If anything is not on the red star, that means it’s optional and you can skip the information.
10. Click on submit:
You will also need citizenship, a passport, a visa, or any other kind of identity card to show your identity. You will also have to load the pdf or JPEG file of the above-mentioned files. And then you need to click the submit icon at the bottom of the page.
11. There you go:
Your application has been submitted successfully and now, you have to wait for a few days to get your mobile phone registered.
If you don’t know your mobile’s brand or model number:
General information like the mobile’s name, brand, or model number is also given in the box of the mobile phone. But there is also another option for knowing the information besides the box. Follow the following steps:
- Click on settings on your mobile phone.
- Scroll down to find the about phone option.
- Click on about phone and you will know all of the general information about your phone.
