How to Deactivate your Instagram Account?

If you are thinking of deleting your account, all your posts, profile, photos, videos, and followers will permanently get removed. Instead you can take a break and temporarily deactivate your Instagram account. Deleting your Instagram account is permanent and you cannot roll it back later so, Instagram itself recommends temporarily disabling your account first. Your profile, photos, videos and followers will be hidden until you reactivate it. You can anytime come back or get back to your account and recover the account and all of your contents. 

Keep in mind that you can only deactivate your Instagram account once a week. You cannot frequently deactivate and activate your account.

Steps to Deactivate your Instagram Account

Here are the steps for temporarily deactivating your Instagram account from computer:

Step 1: Log into “instagram.com” from the browser on your computer.

Step 2: Click your profile picture which is located at the top right page and click “Profile”.

Step 3: Click on “Edit Profile”.

Step 4: Scroll down, look at the bottom right side of the page, then click “Temporarily deactivate my account”.

Step 5: Choose an option from the drop-down menu next to Why are you deactivating your account? Next, you have to re-enter your account’s password. The option to deactivate your account will only appear after you have selected a reason from the drop-down menu and entered your password.

Step 6: Click Temporarily Deactivate Account. Click Yes to confirm deactivating your account temporarily or No to cancel.

Note: You cannot see any deactivate option from your Instagram App on the phone. You have to open Instagram from Google to deactivate your account.

Steps for deactivating Instagram account using your phone:

Step 1: Log into instagram.com from any browser of your mobile phone.

Step 2: Click your profile picture in the bottom right and Click on “Profile”.

Step 3: Then Click on “Edit Profile”.

Step 4: Scroll down the screen, then click “Temporarily deactivate my account” which is in the bottom right of the screen.

Step 5: Choose an option from the drop-down menu next to “Why are you deactivating your account?” After choosing any of the relevant options from the drop-down menu, you have to re-enter your password.

Step 6: Tap Temporarily Deactivate Account. Click “Yes” to confirm deactivating your account temporarily or “No” to cancel.

Following these simple steps, you can deactivate your Instagram account.

For how long can you disable your Instagram? 

You can keep your Instagram account disabled temporarily for as long as you like. You can get back to it or reactivate it at any time you want. The only thing you need is to by logging back in.
